Newark was the most on-time airport in the NYC area in June. That’s right. In June, EWR had more on-time flights than LGA and JFK.

United’s collaboration across many internal and external entities on meaningful change has proven effective and expedited the path to reliability. The underlying issues at Newark, including construction on the airport’s busiest runway, airport-wide overscheduling of flights at peak hours, and an Air Traffic Control staffing shortage, have all been addressed.

· Runway construction is complete Newark’s busiest runway for departing flights closed for renovations mid-April, and the construction project is now complete. That means all runways at Newark are open.

· FAA-supported schedule reductions The closure of the runway compounded the problem at Newark, with its hourly demand often exceeding the ability to absorb operations without delay. We proactively cancelled 35 roundtrip flights (primarily focused on high-frequency markets) and firmed our schedule into the fall so customers can plan their travel with confidence.

· Safe, accelerated ATC onboarding The TRACON facility responsible for overseeing the Newark area was staffed at 58%, significantly reducing the number of arrivals and departures per hour at EWR. This facility currently has 22 trainees, and many of these have previous experience at higher level facilities and are expected to certify in less time than usual.

These changes are here to stay, and the data shows that they’re working. It’s a new Newark, and your travelers can now see firsthand how these changes are creating a better way to fly.

The Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) Convention, held July 21–23 in Denver, CO, brought together more than 4,300 buyers, suppliers, and industry leaders for three days of insight, innovation, and networking—and World Travel Service was proud to be part of the action.

As a member of the BCD Travel Midmarket family, World Travel Service joined forces with our sister brands Adelman Travel and Acendas Travel at the BCD Travel booth. The space was buzzing with energy as our teams met with customers, prospects, and partners, creating new opportunities and deepening existing relationships.

One of the highlights of the convention was our joint BCD Midmarket customer event. Together, we co-hosted a well-attended cocktail reception followed by a private dinner at Ocean Prime. It was a perfect setting to connect with our valued clients and share the exciting direction we’re heading as part of the BCD family.

  • Why it matters: Until finalized, holds on flights, cars, and hotels are temporary. Leaving trips in limbo puts your space at risk, and availability isn’t guaranteed without booking.
  • Best practice: Start and complete your trip booking in one session. Once you add segments (air, car, hotel), move swiftly to finalize and wait for confirmation.

 

2. Avoid Mid-Process Edits

  • Issue: Adding a hotel or car before the airline ticket is issued can disrupt the sequence, generating errors or ticketing delays.
  • Best practice: Once you’re in the ticketing stage, allow Concur to process. Wait for your invoice and confirmation email before editing the trip.

 

3. Watch for “Withdrawn” Status Alerts

  • What’s happening: Concur is updating codes for airline schedule changes. Some may inaccurately mark your trip as “Withdrawn,” even if it’s still active.
  • Best practice: If you see “Withdrawn” without cancellation, contact WTS immediately to validate your booking.

 

4. Leverage Policy-Driven Booking to Stay Compliant

SAP Concur’s platform helps enforce your travel policy, vendor rules, budget limits, preferred carriers, all embedded into the tool. This drives both cost control and duty of care.

Tips:

  • Use direct (nonstop) or lowest-logical-fare filters to save time and money.
  • Take advantage of inline guidance: flagged non-compliant options and hotel notes can help faster compliance.

 

5. Book Early & Monitor Availability

  • Book flights, rooms, and rental cars well in advance. Last-minute bookings can cost more and carry a higher cancellation risk.
  • Keep an eye on your itinerary for alerts: Concur integrates schedule change updates into trips to aid duty of care.

 

6. Keep Your Profile & Payment Info Updated

  • Ensure your traveler profile is current, especially passport and birthdate, for flights.
  • Verify you’ve added a valid corporate credit card; expired card details can block bookings.

 

7. Use Support Resources When Needed

  • If Concur isn’t populating inventory or you get errors, contact WTS. They know system patterns and workarounds during platform lags or schedule-driven system oddities.
  • Clearly communicate with your travel manager if you encounter a “Withdrawn” flag.

  • Concur offers reporting features to track trip costs, booking behavior, and vendor compliance.
